Kerman Paradise of Paleontology

65 million years ago, some creatures in the world were extinct, scientists and researchers are now looking for the remnants and fossils that they may reveal some of their way of life. Kerman province is one of the few places in Iran in which the effects of past geologic organisms have been observed. The existence of huge coal reserves in the north of Kerman province (Zarand city) indicates the existence of vegetation and animal life in this part of Iran. Also, in this land, several fossils have been discovered from different animals and they maintained in Kerman's Natural History Museum.

Some identified Kerman Paleontology

The traces of these animals have also been seen on past sedimentary deposits of geology, especially during the Mesozoic period in different regions. The traces discovered in the Mesozoic Triassic sediments in the Neyzar valley near the village of Deh Alireza, 20 km north of Zarand, are one of these unique points. During the search for dinosaurs by the joint Iran-Brazil team in northern areas of Kerman, the first skeletal works of dinosaurs including a carnivore dinosaurs and parts of unspecified bones in the villages around Zarand were identified. Part of the trail of this dinosaur belongs to 180 million years ago in the Jurassic era in northern Zarand, has been lost due to neglect. Experts have already been able to discover 10 tracks. Of the 10 traces discovered, five tracks belong to the genus Camptosaurus. Nearly 40 years ago, French researchers discovered some of the remains of a dinosaur near Kerman Of course, the remnants of it were immediately transferred to the Museum of Natural History in Paris.

Kerman Paradise of Paleontology
Experts in this region have so far been able to detect the effects of Devonian armored fish fossils (325 to 365 million years ago) related to the Mesozoic era, dinosaurs and related works (250 million to 65 million years ago), and the mammal fossils of the third period belonged to (2 to 7 million years ago). Due to the richness of fossil fuels in the northern city, Kerman province can be considered as the paradise of fossils of the world. However, it should be noted that the abundance of carnivores in an area requires a more abundant amount of vegetarian creatures to provide nutrition and survival. So there's no doubt that there should be many herbivorous dinosaurs in the Jurassic period in Iran.

 Rageh Canyon

Rageh Canyon

Rafsanjan is one the important cities in Kerman province. It's located 100 km near Kerman. Rafsanjan County has one of the amazing and beautiful natural phenomena in Iran and it's The Rageh canyon. This valley is created by alluvial erosion caused by the Guivdary River, during several thousand years.

The length of the valley is about 20 km and the depth of the valley is 70 meters. The opening of the valley is about 180 meters and in some places it is less than three meters. The contrast between the flat plain and the canyon, the forms and volumes created by the erosion of the valley have been monopolized. In some places among columns and wall peak jags there are interesting and various spatial shapes, moreover it can be seen narrow and wide passages alongside the river and valley walls, in addition to small or big holes and cuts which some of them are natural and some are manmade long ago. Eagle, partridge bird and gazelle are some of the wildlife in the area, however Rage is near the Bidoye protected area.

Rage Valley is in a completely different location. It is situated a short distance from the city of Rafsanjan, and Rafsanjan Airport is only 20 km away from the valley. On the other hand it is in the middle of a path where two important natural historical attractions of Kerman ( the village of Meymand and the desert of Lut and its Kalouts, as the UNESCO World Heritages ) are located, and maybe due to its specific features and distinctions, in the future it can also be placed in the world's legacy of the valley, and its great benefits in branding the region's future.

Kalouts is Legendary phenomena in deserts

Kalouts (Yardang) is the large area of soft, poorly consolidated rock and bedrock surfaces that have been extensively grooved, fluted, and pitted by wind erosion. The rock is eroded into alternating ridges and furrows essentially parallel to the dominant wind direction. Yardangs are formed by wind erosion, typically of an originally flat surface formed from areas of harder and softer material. The soft material is eroded and removed by the wind, and the harder material remains. The resulting pattern of Yardangs is therefore a combination of the original rock distribution, and the fluid mechanics of the air flow and resulting pattern of erosion.

Yardangs is often found in soft sediments of past lakes and are found in some of the deserts of the world, including the western desert of Egypt and the Lut desert in Iran.
